THE competition for a new HSV SportsCat+ valued at $76,429 has been run and won, with a long-time Wheels magazine reader winning the keys to the premium dual-cab ute.

John Davis from NSW was the lucky subscriber whose name was pulled out of the hat, and the bright red SportsCat will land in his driveway just in time for Christmas.

The 64-year-old claims he has been buying Wheels Magazine every month for at least 40 years, and he entered the competition simply by resubscribing and receiving 100 entries.

“Holy moly, that’s the first thing I’ve ever won of any substantial nature,” John said in a phone call with Wheels’ editor Alex Inwood. “It’s a shame I’m not still a tradie.”

In another stroke of good fortune, John claims to be a Holden man; though, ironically, he has lapped Bathurst in a Ford.

The SportsCat+ runs the 2.8-litre four-cylinder engine with an unchanged 147kW and 500Nm. The + has an improved chassis, increased ride height and a wider track, stiffer front springs, MTV dampers all around, 362mm front brake rotors and a rear swaybar.
