DEPENDING on the answer, this may be a rort or a rant. In April’s MOTOR, the 911 Carrera S is examined with this engine output description – 309kW/500Nm. Then for comparison, the lower model 911 Carrera with basically the same engine has 272kW/450Nm. Porsche is only one example, as other manufacturers do the same! Is better tuning of the same engine – low cost for the manufacturer, but high cost at retail – a profit-making fiddle? Thanks (hopefully) for your investigation and answer.
It’s simple business strategy, really. But extra power then also necessitates wider wheels and tyres and bigger brakes, all of which add their own cost.
