ONE of the more colourful characters on Drag Challenge, Harry turned up at Calder Park on day one with a boat trailer, complete with tinnie and outboard, hitched to the rear of his eight-second turbo big-block HQ. We thought he was just taking the piss, until he and his crew backed the boat into Portland Bay on the morning of day two.

“Yeah, we caught a couple of flathead and the boys had a couple of stubbies for brekkie; it was all good!” said Harry in the staging lanes at Portland. “One of the blokes that came with me is a pretty avid fisherman, and he said if we’re not fishing, he’s not going. So that was part of the deal.”

The car’s SS-inspired makeover was a tribute to Harry’s good mate and drag racing stalwart Craig Brewer, who passed away earlier in the year.

Mechanically, we’re talking a 510-cube big-block with a Pro Mod 98mm turbo, Tunnel Vision-tuned Haltech ECU, Allfast Powerglide trans and nine-inch.

With 1600hp on tap, it’s got enough poke to tow the runabout, run deep into the eights, and finish runner-up in the Outlaw Blown class.
