LUKE Foley was flat out like a lizard drinking in the lead-up to Drag Challenge. He was responsible for building the ’cages in his brother Todd’s VH as well as Josh O’Brien’s VP ute, and ensuring that they both successfully passed tech inspections prior to the event. It left him with little time to prepare his own car, but it didn’t seem to slow him down much – his 8.72@151mph from Heathcote was within a whisker of his PB.

“They say Drag Challenge is the ultimate test, and we do the ultimate test, and we do a few hard street kays with our cars down in Geelong, so it’s a good week away,” Luke says.

The VH packs a cast-iron 408ci LS with LS3 heads, a custom hydraulic-roller cam and twin 62mm billet Turbonetics turbos. “We’re running a Haltech Elite 2500 with the Racepak dash, so we can datalog and try and creep up on it gradually,” Luke says.

“This was the first event with the twin-turbo set-up and the car only really had a base tune in it; we only just finished it in time.

“I followed the American event [Hot Rod Drag Week] a bit and we did Drag Challenge last year. If you have a crap run at one track it’s not all over, you’re just on to the next track.

A little bit of drama always makes for a good story, too!”
