“IT WAS my first time doing Drag Challenge, but I spoke to more than half the entrants who did it last year and they all said they loved it and it was something that I had to experience,” Brett Smythe says. “The concept is absolutely fantastic, the way the tracks were staggered was good, and the roads were a bit bumpy, but you get that; the car drove really well.
Best of all, you’re with a bunch of like-minded people to have a good time and enjoy your hobby; the hospitality from all the other competitors was awesome.”
Brett’s LX SS hatch runs a standard-bore 308ci Holden backed by a Turbo 400 and a nineinch with a Truetrac and 3.5:1 gears. It ran consistent 12-second passes at every track, but the auto started slipping at Heathcote, which meant by Calder it was a little bit off the pace.
“I’ll definitely be back next year, and the transmission is out getting rebuilt,” Brett says. “The motor is coming out soon too; I’m going to build another one for it before next year.”
