THINGS are going full steam ahead for both the Red CentreNATS in Alice Springs (1-3 September) and Street Machine Summernats 31 in Canberra (4-7 January 2018). RCN has none other than Oz rock legend James Reyne headlining, and will now feature a muchexpanded course for the off-road buggies that will see them racing heads-up and geting some massive air! There are already over 500 cars entered, so it looks like last year’s figures of 724 cars will be smashed. Likewise, Summernats is seeing record entrant levels, with 1428 punters already laying down their cash to be a part of Australia’s biggest horsepower show. Last year, we had 2534 cars come to play – ’Nats 31 looks like being even bigger! And in other ’Nats news, Jason Bean’s Burnout Allstars show (Queensland Raceway, 14 October) is now officially a Burnout Masters feeder event.

CHRIS Bitmead and the XBOSS Falcon team completed a rare achievement at the Queensland Hot Rod Show. By winning the top gong in Brisbane, the Falcon has won Top Car of Show or equivalent at a major show in every state of Australia! Impressive stuff, and when you add in Street Machine Of The Year and a spot in the Great Eight at the Detroit Autorama, that is a pretty full mantelpiece.

OUR next issue is September, and that means one big thing: we kick off the Valvoline Street Machine Of The Year competition! The SM staff vote and choose our 16 favourite rides from the past 12 months; then it is your turn to have your say and make history! We’ll also bid farewell to the late legend of Pro Stock Dave Missingham, get stuck into part two of Aiden’s RB30 Nissan six build, dig Meguiar’s MotorEx in Sydney and check out a twin-turbo XY ute that is ready for Drag Challenge. On sale 24 August 2017.
