WE OFTEN rave about how capable LS engines are, but what isn’t so great is the aesthetics. The LS is certainly not as much of a looker as its older Chevy small-block cousins, so whatever can be done to pretty it up, should be done. Holley has a new range of LS valve covers, and their main purpose is to get rid of those ugly coil packs and replace them with the ‘Chevrolet’ moniker. It’s not all looks though; the new covers have more internal clearance for valvetrain components while still using the OE baffling system. You can choose from five different finishes including polished, satin and crinkle-black, with a billet aluminium oil cap included. Visit performancewholesale.com.au for more information.
HIGHER horsepower equals increased heat, which must be counteracted with an upgrade to the cooling system. Increasing the radiator size is not always the key to a cooler-running engine. So whether you’re chasing horsepower, have limited space in the engine bay or you’re looking for a more effective engine cooling system for your LS engine, Davies Craig offers an innovative Electric Water Pump Header-Adapter Kit! The kit frees up parasitic power lost when using a mechanical water pump. The LCD EWP/Fan Digital Controller will sense your engine’s coolant temperature and govern a consistent coolant flow through your engine, totally independent of engine revs! CAR nuts have been tinkering with small-block Chevys for decades now, but the golden era of go-fast small-block parts is now upon us. Edelbrock and Summit Racing have come to the rescue with Edelbrock’s new Performer RPM Small-Bore Cylinder Heads, designed for small blocks with 3.736in to 4.000in bores. Edelbrock states that the secret is the valve spacing, which is reduced to allow for the smaller cylinder bores. All this means better breathing for more power and better throttle response. The heads can either come fully assembled with valves, springs, locks, rocker-arm studs and pushrods, or as a bare unit. See summitracing.com for more info.

OVER the past few years we’ve had to bid a teary-eyed farewell to our local car manufacturing industry. Experienced car boffin and journo Dave Morley has taken it upon himself to explain the rivalry between Australia’s (former) biggest manufacturers in Holden and Ford in a new book, Six Decades Of Holden Versus Ford. The book details their big wins and the ‘what were they thinking’ moments in one good yarn about Australia’s golden era of making stuff. Unfortunately Morley’s a bit of a fence-sitter, so you’ll have to grab a copy and decide which brand reigns supreme for yourself. Visit hardiegrant.com for more info.
