AFTER frequenting car events since the dawn of time, our mates over at Unique Cars have decided to stage one of their very own. Taking place on 2 June at Sydney Motorsport Park, Rolling 30 is for classic vehicles aged 30 or older, and will allow you the opportunity to cruise the track. It’s not for wildly modified cars and it’s a much more leisurely deal than Powercruise, so don’t turn up hoping to smash the tyres off your blown and injected drag car. But if you’ve got a slammed Kingswood or Falcon, for example, and you’d like to turn some laps with your mates, get on over to

RACING enthusiasts in North Queensland are one step closer to a new drag strip after the $23 million DriveIt NQ facility was granted building approval by the Townsville City Council, paving the way for the construction of the dedicated motorsport complex. It will include a dirt rally circuit, paved track, speedway oval and the allimportant drag strip. However, DriveIt still needs another $18m to make the plans a reality – funds that have not yet been committed by either major party. “Right now, the best thing people can do is keep up the pressure on the politicians by asking them if they will be supporting DriveIt NQ,” interim director Greg Fitzgerald said. The first stage of construction is set to begin early next year.

THERE’S no rest for the wicked, and as this issue of Street Machine heads to the printer, we’re already toiling away on the June issue – it’s going to be a good ’un! Feature cars will include a lightning-fast Barra-powered Corty, a showstopping Summernats Elite Hall XW, and a positively sinister Camaro with a nitrous-snorting big-block, among many others. We’ll also hit Racewars and Beach Hop, and bring you a bunch of cool tech. On sale 16 May!
