ON 6 APRIL, rodders, friends, neighbours and interested townfolk gathered at Hadfield’s Hot Rods in Chewton, Victoria to witness the unveiling of a hand-carved wooden statue of hot rodding legend Rod Hadlfield and his Boxer dog Cody. The work of sculptor Richard Yates, the uncanny likeness is housed in an old-time garage scene made of bush poles, distressed iron and wood. The sculpture joins the other hot rodthemed artworks on the Hadfields’ property, including Rat Fink in Rod’s Fiat, made of corrugated iron, and a painting of Rat Fink breaking out of a water tank, thanks to the skills of Ryan Ford. It’s worth a trip to check it out at 624 Pyrenees Highway, Chewton.
