VW BAY WINDOW KOMBI

The Bay Window Kombi was introduced in late 1967. It boasted many refinements but at the cost of considerable weight gain. A higher top speed was thanks to a larger 1600cc 36-horsepower engine and underneath the swing rear axle was flung, replaced by a transaxle for less whiteknuckle driving. In 1971 the Bay window got a 50hp version of the same engine plus disc brakes and in the mid 70s an auto gearbox and 1800cc engine from the Porsche 912 and 914 were offered.
