KIA has revealed a seismic shift in its design language with this, a concept for a nextgeneration Optima wagon. With such a muscular body that reflects designer Peter Schreyer’s philosophy that proportion is everything, the Sportspace Concept nails it.
This stunning design makes the latest Hyundai Sonata, which shares its underpinnings with the new Optima, clearly the more conservative, older buyer’s pick.
The Kia sedan will mirror the design cues of the Sportspace wagon shown here, with similarly styled rear lamps stretched over the rear quarters.
Under the bonnet, the Optima will share the same 2.0-litre turbo and naturally aspirated fourcylinder engines the Sonata uses.
The Optima is due here in 2016 and may for the first time be offered as a wagon to take a swipe at the Mazda 6 and Subaru Outback wagons.
