MARANELLO’S freshest berlinetta, the 488 GTB, completely rewrites the books for Ferrari in terms of power output, torque and response times, but also comes stamped with a green tick. The replacement for the formidable 458 picks up the 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 that appeared in the California T last year. Amped up to 493kW and 760Nm, the 488 will sprint from 0-100km/h in 3.0sec, pass 200km/h in 8.3sec, and wind out to 330km/h. The 488 is only the second Ferrari after the California to make the turbo switch in the hunt for emission reductions. But we’re not thinking about CO2 when we’re having our loins stirred by a Ferrari that’s had its nose scooped, sides scalloped and the visual amperage upped. It’s due here in 2016.
