Nosing forward

EMISSIONS from Australia’s passenger car and light commercial vehicle fleet fell 2.3 percent in 2014 compared with the previous year, the latest National Transport Commission survey reveals.

Average emissions last year fell to 188g/km, or slightly less than that of an entry-level Porsche 911 Carrera. However, Australian-made cars held steady at 210g/km, the same figure they achieved in 2012, blowing the national average out by 3g/km. BMW’s 151g/km was the best of all the brands, while off-road specialist Jeep had the industry’s worst with 222g/km.
