I FIND it appalling that more than 1000 Australians have signed up to get a slice of VW in the form of compensation.

I would bet that almost none of the claimants knew what the emission levels were supposed to be or even what this meant in terms of pollution and danger to health.

I would also suggest that they only purchased these vehicles because of the advantage in fuel use over petrol models.

Underquoting of fuel use surely presents a much greater impost on the environment (and people’s pockets) than Volkswagen’s 100,000 ‘dirty diesels’. How many of us can drive on over-inflated tyres and not exceed 40km/h on flat roads with a tail wind to get the fuel usage we are quoted?
