FOR the last decade the automotive press has praised VW Group and heaped it with awards, including Wheels Car of the Year in 2009, 2010 and 2013.
Just like drug cheats in the Olympics and Lance Armstrong cheating in the Tour de France, VW has deceived the world.
Armstrong was stripped of his wins, and drug cheats get banned for life.
Itís now time to strip VW of any awards received over the emissions cheating period. I challenge Wheels to strip VW of their Car of the Year awards.
While other manufacturers spent millions developing low emissions technology, VW plonked glorified truck engines into its cars. No wonder VW products have great interiors Ė thereís no need to spend cash developing engines.
Itís clear that VW got an g e, s. es h unfair advantage in being judged Car of the Year.
Edís note: Strong opinion there, Kieron, and not without merit. We discussed this at length internally and made the decision not to strip VW of its COTY win in 2009.
Wheels COTY is won based on all the information available at the time. As for Polo in 2010, it did not have the EA189 engine.
