WE’VE seen the Alfa Romeo Giulia at several motor shows, but the production line-up is still about a year away. Why the wait? An Alfa insider claims the Giulia is being delayed by an SUV spun off the same platform. The development work on the four-door has been tapered off to free-up more resources and manpower, enabling the SUV version (pictured left in mule form) to catch up. While a proper sports sedan is crucial to Alfa Romeo’s brand image, the SUV will be the money-maker, especially in the two markets it’s targeting for major growth: China and the US.
