As some manufacturers wind back their diesel offerings on the back of slowing sales (especially for passenger cars) BMW has expanded its X4 range with the xDrive 35d.

Powered by a 230kW/630Nm 3.0-litre six-cylinder twin-turbo diesel, the new arrival matches the petrol-fed xDrive35i for equipment with a $2000 price premium. The diesel not only beats the petrol on performance (0-100km/h in 5.2 seconds versus the 35is 5.5 seconds) it also smashes it on claimed average fuel use 6.0L/100km versus 8.3L/100km.
