VW begins Dieselgate recall

Volkswagen Australia has commenced a recall of vehicles caught up in Dieselgate, starting with 8694 Amarok utes. The vehicles will receive a software upgrade that will take only half an hour to perform. Other affected 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesel models will be recalled progressively through this year. Meanwhile, VW has been given until the end of March to come up with an acceptable fix for the 600,000 diesel-powered cars affected by the emissions scandal in the US, where the EPA has rejected software fixes. VW must present proposed fixes at a court appearance on March 24.
