As a BMW M4 owner, I think Wheels is spot-on regarding the launch control feature on this car (First Drive: BMW M3 & M4, WheelsMag.com.au).
Itís useless. It just wants to demolish the tyres regardless of their temperature and the surface. BMW in Germany passed me off to an Australian dealer, who couldnít offer any reason as to why it was so aggressive and said: ďJust lower the tyre pressures.Ē As if Iím going to drive my car with 20-28psi in the tyres!
I have since fitted 285 Michelin Cup 2 tyres down at the rear. Thatís fixed most of the traction issues when there is good heat in them, but has it fixed the launch control problem? Absolutely not; it still wants to murder the rears.
