Diesel on the way out?

Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson is the latest senior exec to predict the diesel-powered passenger cars’ demise. He told Wheels he expects demand for diesel engines to drop steadily as emission regulations tighten, and the falling cost of EV componentry will make petrol-powered hybrids cheaper than equivalent diesels “within two years”. Australia is already seeing the bottom end of the diesel market being crunched.

Volkswagen chose not to offer diesel in the updated Polo, and others are noticing reduced demand for diesel passenger cars.
