Mazda ditches the CD

Mazda’s updated 3 is the first mainstream model to drop the CD player. The CD slot had been fitted as standard equipment for a decade, but the rise of MP3 players and digital streaming meant Mazda’s beancounters no longer saw the need to fit the technology developed by Philips and Sony in 1982.

Consolation for 3 buyers is standard digital radio tuning that unlocks dozens of new stations. But the 3 still doesn’t offer a reversing camera on all models; it remains optional on the base Neo.
