Mercedes-Benzís new naming strategy has hit the SLK two-seat roadster, now known as SLC.

Despite the change to the name thatís existed since 1996, the SLC is little more than a facelift of the SLK, with the biggest visual change its new diamond grille.

A new 115kW/250Nm 1.6-litre turbo graces the SLC180 that arrives with a price some $17K below that of the former price leader. SLC200 and SLC 300 get different tunes of the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder, with sharper pricing to match.

Itís the SLC43 thatís the most controversial, replacing the glorious V8 from the SLK55 with a 270kW/520Nm twin-turbo V6; the claimed 0-100km/h is 4.7sec, slightly slower than the 55 it replaces as the SLC hero.
