Ford’s top-selling sports car, the Mustang, made headlines last month after a shocking two-star ANCAP safety rating. Tested in conjuction with Euro NCAP, it was found the car offered “poor” occupant protection for both adults and children due to incorrectly inflating airbags, and a crash structure that saw a door burst open in a side pole test. Ford Australia described the ANCAP result as “disappointing”, suggesting that new protocols were introduced well after development and safety testing of the current Mustang had taken place.
