Blame game

The US Consumer Watchdog has written to General Motors in protest over what it claims is the car maker’s bid to blame an autonomous cars’ owners for a crash, not the company which built it. Under a proposed legal framework presented to the US Department of Transport, GM has suggested that the vehicle must be “maintained in compliance with manufacturers’ specifications”. That has the watchdog worried owners could be held responsible if, say, mud was splashed on a vital sensor, disabling it and causing a crash.
