Everyone should own something carbonfibre, even if it has little or no advantage over a cheaper material. A case in point (pun) is this Armor Series iPhone X cover that is crafted from, not just regular run-of-the-mill woven carbon, but the forged stuff. That’s the material that helps make the Lamborghini Huracan Performante $56,000 more than the regular version. Weighing in at just 39 grams, your phone will be protected from minor impacts but there’s no guarantee if you shunt the Armco with it.

Ferdinand Alexander ‘Butzi’ Porsche established his design house in 1972, nine years after penning the 901. His debut product was a watch called the Chronograph I – the first to use black PVD coating – and it became a design icon. Porsche’s credo of form following function was patent in the colour scheme modelled on automotive instruments. For decades Porsche Design relied on partners to manufacturer its watches, but that changed in 2014 with the launch of its own watchmaking facility in Switzerland. Timepiece No.1, shown here, is the first designed and made in-house, and some of the 500 limited-edition units remain available. No. 1 takes styling cues from the Chronograph I, with a modern twist, and is based on a 42mm titanium case housing a Valjoux 7750 automatic movement with 48-hour power reserve.
