It’s taken longer for Lexus to develop the Morphic Blue paint you see here than it takes a bottle of Scotch whisky to mature in oak. Fascinatingly, the paint has virtually no blue pigment in it. The secret to its deep blue lustre is a painstaking eight-month process that uses seven layers to mimic the light trick performed by the Morpho butterfly’s wings. Despite the extraordinary 15-year development marathon and 12-process paint application, Lexus is charging just $2500 to coat your LC500 or LC500h, and it will even throw in a blue Alcantara interior with orange and white highlights as part of the special edition.
