MG3 ditches the stick

MG is eyeing off Kia’s turf, with a seven-year warranty, new automatic (sadly only four-speed) and driveaway pricing combining to make the facelifted MG3 light hatchback more persuasive than before. Compared with its now-deleted manual-only predecessor, the Core is up $2000 to $15,990 (plus ORC) – but it now includes 15-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with reversing camera/Apple CarPlay, plus a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The new Excite then adds 16-inch alloys, part-fake leather and tartan trim, a rear spoiler and other niceties for $1500 extra. And both get a revised 82kW/150Nm 1.5-litre petrol, up from former 78kW/137Nm outputs.
