You’ think Australia would be insulated from emissions legislation in Europe, but we likely won’ be. Last month, Europe’ parliament voted to increase emissions regulations in its member nations – a move that would see average vehicular CO2 emissions in 2030 drop by 40 percent relative to the already strict 2021 target. The proposed limit for 2030 is a mere 38g of CO2 per km for passenger cars. The knock on effect will likely be a rapid proliferation of EVs, PHEVs and hybrids through model ranges, which are sure to make their way Down Under.

At $416,500, Porsche’s ultimate trackfocused 911 will cost $30K more than the preceding version, and $90K more than the regular GT3 when it arrives at the end of the year. In an era of turbo Carreras, the atmo 4.0-litre flat-six RS has more appeal than ever. With 383kW and 470Nm, it’s more potent than before too, by 15kW and 10Nm, which sees the claimed 0-100km/h drop by 0.1sec to 3.2sec. More importantly, chassis advances including recalibrated rearwheel steering delivers a benchmark Nurburgring time 24sec quicker than the previous GT3 RS. An optional Weissach pack brings magnesium wheels and carbonfibre panels to further trim weight. And a no-cost Clubsport package aimed at serious trackdayers gives you a half rollcage, driver’s six-point harness, fire extinguisher and battery isolator.
Visually, Skoda’s update to the Fabia hatch and wagon is subtle. Tweaked front and rear styling incorporating LED headlights and fog lights ties in with new wheel designs, including the option of 18s for the hatch.
